KINGSFORD – Earl M. Rappi, 81, of Kingsford, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
He was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Sidnaw, Mich., son of the late August and Ina (Eade) Rappi. Earl graduated from Trout Creek High School in 1950, and enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country for two years and then was assigned to the Presidential Honor Guard in Washington D.C.
Earl married Helene B. Legault on July 25, 1953, in Ft. Riley, Kan. He was employed as a machinist by Johnson Outboard Motor Corp. in Waukegan, Ill. for 30 years. After retiring in 1981, Earl and his wife moved to Foster City.
He was an avid outdoorsman and frequently spent time fishing, hunting, gardening and spending quality time at deer camp. Earl enjoyed playing golf, horseshoes and helping maintain the Felch baseball field.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helene; a son, Scott (Phyllis) Rappi of Kingsford; a daughter, Pamela Rappi (George Neeve) of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; two sisters, Marilyn Burchette of Winthrop Harbor, Ill. and Yvonne (Thomas) Robertson of Simi Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren, Tyler Rappi, Lauren Rappi (Larry Zeugner) and Heidi (Bill) Dermody; six great- grandchildren; Megan, Max, Keira, and Connor Dermody and Myah and Sophia Zeugner; and several nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rappi and three sisters; Evelyn (Frank) Geryol, Lorraine (Sammy) Schmeiser, and Beatrice May.
Private family services will be held.
