Problems of society

The point I was trying to make with my last letter concerning the origins of the word “liberal” is the foolishness of conservatives labeling liberals and vice versa.

We all have some different views and some similar views. However, putting labels and attaching stigmas to one party or another is going to accomplish nothing.

To be forthright, the main reason I get so frustrated with society is that the problems of society are very solvable if we would apply to them a little common sense and intelligence.

As the late Civil War historian Shelby Foote said, “We Americans don’t like to think so, but one thing we have always been good at is compromise.”

Words well spoken.
