Gas service line breaks at MSP post

IRON MOUNTAIN – A gas service line break caused the evacuation of the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain post this morning.

The incident occurred at about 10:25 a.m.

Firefighters from the Iron Mountain Fire Department reported that a contractor had inadvertently hit the one-inch gas service line to the post. The line snapped, and was leaking gas above ground, they said.

Post personnel had already evacuated the building before firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters monitored the situation and provided standby while DTE Energy worked to repair the line.

Firefighters were back at the station at 11:37 a.m.
