North Land Women awards scholarships

IRON MOUNTAIN – North Land Women for Education is a small group of women that really gets things done.

This year they have awarded five $1,000 scholarships to women going to school. They could be just graduating from high school, in college, or going back to school. This year all the winners were high school seniors.

“We take pride in selecting the winners based on our criteria and it’s a long process, but well worth it. The committee meets and reviews all the scholarships. It’s what we work for all year long and it’s very rewarding,” says Trisha Peterson, North Land Women for Education representative.

This year’s recipients included:

Britney Stepien, a graduate of Pembine Schools, who is going to Concordia University in Wisconsin for nursing.

Jordanne Kubick, a graduate of Iron Mountain Public Schools, who will be attending Ferris State University in Big Rapids for pre-medicine.

Marinda Bottesi, a graduate of Kingsford Public Schools, who will be going to Cedarville University in Ohio for pharmacy.

Rachel Gibler, a graduate of Kingsford, who is going to Bay College West for elementary education.

Mallery Flannery, a graduate of Iron Mountain, is attending Bay College West for chemistry.
