Missing Pembine children found safe

MARINETTE, Wis. – Two children reported missing Sunday night in the town of Pembine were found safe early Monday after a search of nearly six hours, said Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

Marinette central dispatch received a call at 10:20 p.m. that the children, ages 7 and 12, had gone for a walk at 7:30 p.m. and failed to return after nightfall.

Deputies responded and a multi-agency search effort was launched that resulted in the safe recovery of both children at about 4 a.m., Sauve said.

The children, who were cold and tired when located, were reunited with their parents and then transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital where they were checked and later released.

Assisting agencies included the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Pembine Fire Department and Pembine Rescue Squad.

The sheriff also extended thanks to the family and friends of the missing children who aided the search.
