Ishpeming woman, 19, dies in crash
ISHPEMING – A 19-year-old Ishpeming woman died as the result of a two-vehicle traffic accident Friday morning on U.S. 41 in Ishpeming.
The accident involved a passenger vehicle colliding with a dump truck, according to the Ishpeming City Police Department.
Police said the victim attempted to turn west onto U.S. 41 from the Family Dollar parking lot, pulling out between two National Guard trucks that had stopped in the outside lane for a red light.
She attempted to drive into the westbound lanes when her 1999 Subaru was struck by a 2004 Freightliner dump truck that was traveling east on U.S. 41 in the passing lane.
The woman, who was not identified by police, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 46-year-old Marquette man who also was not identified, was injured in the accident and was treated and released at Bell Hospital.
Police said preliminary findings point to the driver of the Subaru being at fault in the accident, which remains under investigation.
