KINGSFORD – Marie M. DeVet, 95, of Kingsford, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born July 27, 1918, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Eichen) Clash. Marie graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1937, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
She worked at S.S. Kresge in her younger years and was primarily a homemaker during her marriage to George DeVet. Following George’s death in 1970, Marie was employed at Wolverine Cleaners in Iron Mountain.
In her retirement, she spent a lot of time providing daycare for area families. Marie was a member of St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and playing cards.
Marie is survived by a son, Jim (Sue) DeVet of Palm Bay, Fla.; a daughter, Debbie (Mike) Julian of Iron Mountain; a daughter-in-law, Sharyl DeVet (Dan Hoelzel); seven grandchildren, Paul (Sheila) Julian, Christie (Tom) Kitsos, David (Kris) DeVet, Tammy (Kurt) Cooper, Richard DeVet, Tanya (Dennis) Glew and Kimberly (Dave) Antilla; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas DeVet; a grandson, Timmy Julian; and six brothers, Jim, Peter, William, John, Bernie and Thomas Clash.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
The funeral will follow Saturday at 2 p.m. at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
