Recycling tour Aug. 14

KINGSFORD – The Dickinson Conservation District has organized a tour of the Eagle Waste and Recycling facility in Eagle River, Wis., on Aug. 14.

Eagle Waste serves northern Wisconsin and parts of the Upper Peninsula, and Florence County.

In Florence, residents have curbside recycling bins and are able to recycle plastics No. 1-7, aluminum, glass, scrap metal, paper, and small appliances. In other communities, roll-away collection sites are available. For more information about their coverage area and services, see www.eaglewasteandrecyling.com.

Participants will learn about how single-stream recycling works and see a state-of-the-art recycling operation. Single-stream recycling provides the opportunity for increased participation in recycling because residents are not required to sort their materials. All sorting happens at the recycling facility.

Those who wish to attend the tour can meet 12:15 p.m. at the USDA Service Center at 102 N. Hooper St. in Kingsford to carpool. Anyone who does ,not wish to carpool can get directions to the facility from Willa Campbell at dickinson.projmgr@macd.org or (906)774-1550 Ext. 103.

The tour will begin at 2 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Please wear closed-toe shoes. RSVP by Aug. 12.
