Detectives seek information in Alger County fatal shooting

NEGAUNEE – Detectives from the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining information related to the officer-involved shooting that left an Alger County man dead last week.

They are looking for anyone who came into contact with the subject Timothy Mitchell on July 14, the day of the incident.

On that day, authorities received a report that an altercation had occurred in Christmas and an intoxicated driver had left the scene.

An officer with the Munising Police Department had heard a description of the vehicle and spotted the car in Munising. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it allegedly kept traveling south and east out of Munising.

The suspect vehicle later crashed on Buckhorn Road. After the crash, there was an officer-involved shooting. The deceased was identified as Mitchell.

Detectives said that information is still needed to establish a timeline of events surrounding the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Paul Campbell or Detective Sgt. Chris Croley at (906) 475-9922.

Detectives said that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and a further update will be available upon the conclusion of the investigation.
