Brule claims two championships

KINGSFORD Iron Mountain High School junior Katie Brule collected a pair of titles and Brian Tresedder showed the same form from his Kingsford High School days at last weekend’s U.P. Tennis Open.

Brule turned back Kingsford’s Janay Walters 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) for the women’s A singles title.

Brule and Mountaineer teammate Olivia Truscott overcame Kingsford’s Anna Shanks-Hannah Tresedder, 6-3, 6-4, to win the women’s doubles championship.

Tresedder, a former Kingsford High School and Concordia University Wisconsin star, rallied past Matt Lobeck 6-7, 6-2, 6-1. Tresedder was a two-time U.P. and Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Year.

Lobeck, a former Iron Mountain High School and St. Norbert College standout, teamed up with Collin Kuoppala in men’s A doubles. They lost in the finals to former Iron Mountain High School ace Mike Menghini and Munising’s Rod Gendron 6-2, 6-4.

“We saw some great tennis for the two days,” said tournament director Alec Tuchowski, expressing appreciation to Bink’s Coca-Cola for providing water and Powerade.
