Wausaukee man held after foot pursuit

MARINETTE, Wis. – A Wausaukee, Wis. man suspected of stealing a vehicle was arrested Wednesday following a foot pursuit incident.

The suspect, Caleb J. Krippel, 24, was transported by Wausaukee Rescue Squad to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette for treatment of severe lacerations to his lower legs, which he received fleeing law enforcement through a garage window.

A deputy from the Marinette Sheriff’s Department noticed a vehicle in the Village of Wausaukee that closely matched the description of a stolen vehicle out of Calumet County at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday.

The deputy radioed for other officers to confirm the vehicle was stolen, as he was already in route to jail.

Officers said when they began investigating at the residence where the vehicle was parked, they heard glass breaking and saw Krippel fleeing on foot from a garage.

A foot pursuit crossed the village from east to west and Krippel entered a house occupied by a female, who officers said was able to exit her residence unharmed.

Several officers then closed in on the house and Krippel was taken into custody.

According to the sheriff’s department, no officers were injured in the incident and the public is no longer in any danger.

Reports of the incident will be forwarded to the Marinette County District Attorney for consideration of formal charges.

The case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department.
