Six graduate from family residency program
MARQUETTE – In ceremonies held recently, Mandeep Gill, MD, Timothy LaBonte, MD, Thomas Massie, MD, Ashwaty Menon, MD, Michelle Seguin, MD, and Tara Varoni, DO, graduated after completing three years of training with the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program.
“It was an absolute pleasure to work with such a fine group of residents for the last three years and to see how their individual skills strengthened as they advanced through the program,” said Dr. Stuart Johnson, Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program director. “While we are sorry to bid farewell to these fantastic individuals, we are pleased that they will be utilizing their outstanding skills with their own patients, some right here in the Upper Peninsula,” said Dr. Johnson.
Mandeep Gill, MD, a native of British Columbia earned his medical degree at St. George’s University in Grenada. He will be joining a group near Vancouver in the town of Surrey where he will practice the full scope of family medicine.
Tim LaBonte, MD, an Upper Peninsula native from Laurium, received his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. LaBonte will join the Portage Health team at the Lake Linden clinic.
Tom Massie, MD, of Ishpeming, spent the clinical portion of medical school training in the Upper Peninsula as part of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine UP Region. Dr. Massie will be joining Sound Physicians and become part of the Hospitalist team right here at Marquette General.
Ashwaty Menon, MD, of New Delhi, India, earned her medical degree from Jawaharial Nehru Medical College in Karnataka, India. Dr. Menon will embark on a one-year hospitalist fellowship in Bismark, North Dakota.
Michelle Seguin, MD, of Iron Mountain, earned her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where she completed the clinical portion of her training at the U.P. campus. Dr. Seguin will provide outpatient family medicine at Portage Health’s clinic in Hancock.
Tara Varoni, DO, a native of Manistique, earned her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Tara plans to join the Marquette General team at Doctors Park Family Physicians later this year.
As the class of 2014 graduates, the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program also welcomes six new residents who will make up the class of 2017: Priya Alagappan, MD, (Ross University School of Medicine), Samantha “Sami” Haken, MD, (MSU College of Human Medicine); Aaron Cutlip, MD, (MSU College of Human Medicine); Katie Fulcher, DO, (MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine); Tyson Luoma, DO, (MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine); Ivy Vachon, MD, (MSU College of Human Medicine).
