Bash, Blast and Bottle Bizarre Bugs Monday

IRON MOUNTAIN – Dickinson County Library has announces its upcoming activities through July 25.

Schedule is as follows:

Monday, July 14

Bash, Blast, and Bottle Bizarre Bugs, 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library and 1 p.m. at the Norway Library. Kids will make their own build-a-bug crafts, play the spider and the fly game, and vote in the battle of the baddest bizarre bugs. Perfect for anyone who loves learning more about these tiny creatures, this program is for kids in grades K-5.

Tuesday, July 15

ABC Science: O is for Ocean, 10 a.m. at the Norway Library. Learn the ABCs of science at the Dickinson County Library and Norway Library in July. Each session will focus on a different theme that will teach kids the various principles of science with stories, science demonstrations, activities, and crafts. O is for Ocean will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 10 a.m. at the Norway Library and Thursday, July 17, 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library. This program is open to children under age 6 and is sponsored by Drs. Michael and Maria Occhietti and family.

Melted Paintings, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library. Teens can experiment with crayons and heat to create one-of-a-kind art masterpieces that are sure to amaze. “Don’t miss out on this fun and inventive way to make art at the library,” notes a spokesperson. This program is for grades 5 and up and registration is required. This program is sponsored by Edwards Automotive.

Wednesday, July 16

Sounds in Nature with David Stokes, 1 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library and 3 p.m. at the Norway City Hall. David Stokes is a multiple award-winning educator who presents his program with music and humor. These live creatures, animal artifacts, songs and short stories are designed to teach kids about science in a super fun way. This program is perfect for kids of all ages and is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Dale Shampo.

Thursday, July 17

Puppies, Redheads, and Guns: Meet Author Michael Carrier, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library. Michael Carrier is the author of mysteries, including several set around Michigan locales like Sugar Island and the Upper Peninsula, featuring retired homicide detective Jack Handler.

Monday, July 21

Wiggle Worms Storytime, 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library. Toddlers will be delighted in stories and songs brought by our favorite puppet friends. Toddlers will learn 9 new words a day. Participating in stories, songs and rhymes helps develop your child’s vocabulary and builds meaningful experiences. “Get ready to dance, laugh and play at the library,” she says. This program is geared to ages 2-3 years old, but is open to kids of all ages. There is no registration required for this program.

Fizz, Burp, Read. with PaleoJoe, 1 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library. PaleoJoe, a real life paleontologist, will share prehistoric artifacts discovered all over, including Northern Michigan. Teens will be able to join PaleoJoe and learn recently discovered new information about some of their best loved dinosaurs. This program is for grades 4 and up and is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Dale Shampo.

The Soundz of Time with Jan and Gino, 6 p.m. at the Norway Library. The concert will be a mix of standards and classics, including country, rock, jazz, swing, and oldies songs certain to get you dancing. Jan and Gino have a combined 30 years of entertainment experience and are sure to be a musical delight for the whole family. The concert will be held in the Norway Library courtyard, so please bring chairs.

Tuesday, July 22

Fizz, Boom, SING. with Tom Pease, 2 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library.

Tom Pease entertains with song, music, movement and humor. Children and adults have trouble sitting still as Tom takes audience participation to a new level. Be there and share the power of laughter. This program is open to all ages, and is sponsored by the Verso Paper Corporation.

Page by Page Book Club, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library. The Page by Page Book Club selection for July is An Owl on Every Post by Sanora Babb. There are no reading guides available for this book. The Page by Page Book Club is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.

Wednesday, July 23

Mad Scientist Club: Make It Glow, 1 p.m. at the Norway Library. Great fun results when using common ingredients that ooze, glow and bubble over. Glowing bubbles, Mountain Dew and Rainbow Eruptions help teach kids the fun principles of chemistry. This program is for grades K-5 and registration is required. This program is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Dale Shampo.

Thursday, July 24

Cuddle Bugs Storytime, 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library. This program is designed to introduce infants to the world of stories. Through sensory exploration and exposure to songs, tickles, puppets and many other enriching circle time activities, your child will be involved in an environment that encourages fun, laughter, and giggles. This program is open to all babies ages birth to 24 months.
