Construction worker hit by vehicle

IRON MOUNTAIN – A 54-year-old construction worker was hit Thursday morning by a vehicle on U.S. 2 near Third Street in Breitung Township, just east of the U.S 141 (south junction) intersection, said state police at the Iron Mountain post.

The worker, from Saginaw, was transported by Beacon Ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for treatment. His condition was unknown.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 34-year-old female, was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing serious injury as well as failing to stop and identify at the scene of a personal injury crash. Her name was not being released pending arraignment.

A trooper from the Iron Mountain post, who was on patrol in the fully marked construction zone, witnessed the accident at about 9:40 a.m., according to a state police news release.

The trooper observed the worker, who was in full reflective gear, fall to the ground after being struck. The suspect vehicle, which was leaving the scene, was pursued and stopped by the trooper.

State police were assisted by the Iron Mountain Police Department as well as advanced crash investigators from the Iron Mountain post.
