Music Under the Stars concert Sunday at Lake Antoine Park
IRON MOUNTAIN – Along with the Dickinson Area County Band, the Dickinson County Community Chorus will sing at Lake Antoine on Sunday, July 13. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.
“Rain is predicted for Sunday, so bring your umbrellas and pray for sunshine. If we should have to postpone due to weather we will announce it,” a spokesperson said.
The Dickinson County Community Chorus has been in existence for 47 years. The group has a long standing standard of excellence in choral music. The summer concert is under the direction of Crystal Hogan and accompanied by Janice Van Gasse.
“This summer’s program is entertaining and familiar. You will be able to sing along with most or all of the songs. From Danny Boy to the Big Band sound and songs by Cohan, you are sure to enjoy every minute of this varied program,” organizers said.
Other songs include a medley of songs by Rogers and Hammerstein, Sixteen Tons, The Star-Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful and two well known spirituals; “Every Time I Feel the Spirit” and “Peace in the Valley.” “Peace in the Valley” will be sung in memory of Margaret “Magee” Johnson as this was one of her favorite songs.
“This summer the chorus is made up of 30 voices who are dedicated to making this concert excellent and upbeat. The group consists of a few charter members as well as many returning and some new members. The group continues to evolve and is always looking for new members. With many educated and trained musicians, novices have strong section leaders to help them become excellent chorus members,” a spokesperson added.
If you can sing you can be a part of the Dickinson County Community Chorus. Feel free to join the group for the Christmas season Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
