Cinco de Mayo event raises $6,000 for DACF mini grants

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Dickinson Area Community Foundation, along with major sponsor Forward Financial, hosted the third annual Cinco de Mayo event at Pine Grove Country Club.

The 2014 event raised $6,000 to be awarded back to the community in the form of mini-grants.

The purpose of the event was to raise funds to support the mini grant program through the Community Foundation. The event evolved from a partnership between DACF and Forward Financial in an effort to raise awareness of the Community Foundation, fund the growing mini grant program and to bring live entertainment to the area.

The entertainment for the past three Cinco de Mayo events has been the lively “Piano Fondue” from the Madison, Wis. area. One of the owners of the company, Chris Lange, is a Niagara native and has a love of our area and the people who live here.

“The big city dueling pianos entertainment was sponsored by Forward Financial, and would not be possible without their support. Forward Financial has been instrumental in the growth of the mini grant program through their support of the Cinco de Mayo fund raiser,” noted Tamara Juul, director of DACF.

In 2013, DACF awarded $ 16,500.00 in mini grants to various programs and projects throughout the community. These grants are available to residents in Dickinson County and the surrounding Wisconsin communities of Niagara, Aurora and Florence.

If you would like to support the mini-grant program, tax-deductible donations can be made payable to: DACF, 333 S. Stephenson Avenue, Suite 204, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
