FLORENCE, Wis. – Larry J. Hohol, Florence County resident and previously of Bellevue, died early Sunday morning, July 6, 2014, at a local hospital after being diagnosed with cancer six months ago.
He was born Oct. 5, 1944, in Niagara, Wis. to the late Joseph and Maryann (Chartier) Hohol. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Niagara High School and continued his education at Milwaukee County General Hospital in radiological technology. Larry began his 37 year career at Bellin Hospital in 1967, and was employed there until his retirement. During his tenure at Bellin, he was instrumental in the advancement of diagnostic services and became director of the School of Radiological Technology. Larry was involved in numerous aspects of Bellin Hospital’s continued development. He retired in 2002 as vice president of Medical Staff Affairs.
Larry moved to Bellevue in 1970, and married the former Roberta Regent on Aug. 23, 1980. He became an involved community member starting as a founding member of the Bellevue Fire Department and staying with the department until 1997. He served on numerous committees and commissions in Bellevue until 2007.
He and Roberta moved to their cottage in Homestead, Wis. this past September. Larry was a proud husband and father. He was very active in his families activities, whether it was coaching soccer or volunteering his talents to the scouting program. He was a member of Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Parish and served on their School Board and was a past member of Prince of Peace Parish.
Larry looked forward to “The Hunt” every fall. He loved being up north with family and friends, hunting, fishing, campfires and especially feeding everyone. No one ever left the cottage hungry!
Larry is survived by his wife Roberta and four sons: Chris (Tammy) Hohol of Bellevue; Eric (Donna) Hohol of Stoughton; Wade (Lexi) Hohol of Ledgeview and Matt (Molly) Hohol of Bellevue; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a sister, Darlene (Richard) Bigari, Iron River; two sisters-in-law, Patti Regent (Steve) of West Bend and Donna Lopez of Menominee Falls, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara (Ted) Kleikamp.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Parish wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Road. after 10 a.m. Thursday until time of Mass.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Daniel Viertel officiating.
Burial in the Niagara Cemetery in Niagara, Wis. on Friday July 11, at 11 a.m.
