City councils meeting tonight
The cities of Norway, Kingsford and Iron Mountain will all have city council meetings tonight.
The Norway City Council meets at 7 p.m. in the Curtis J. Brackett Memorial Council Chambers in the city hall building, 915 Main St. in Norway.
Agenda items include a resolution for Carol Zechlin, appointment of an executive director of the Jake Menghini Museum, appointment to the Michigan Municipal League Worker’s Compensation Fund board of trustees, noise ordinance, approval of the Sturgeon Falls Hydroelectric Plant grounding breaker, approval of the city hall carpet cleaning, boulevard tree removal and contract to update the zoning ordinance.
The Iron Mountain City Council will meet today at 6:30 p.m. in the council meeting room of the city hall building, 501 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain.
A bid opening on a 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit will be conducted under old business.
New business items include a request to purchase city-owned land from Harry Rahoi, solicit bids for 2014 paving, consideration of a request for proposals for garbage collection services, dues request for the Upper Peninsula Travel and Recreation Association (UPTRA), closure of City Park on July 26 for Saturday in the Park, approval for Kingsford High School cross country meet using the City Park trails, and appointment of Julie Olson tot he Planning Commission.
A closed session is also planned concerning the city manager’s evaluation and collective bargaining strategy.
The Kingsford City Council will meet today at 6:30 p.m. in the council room, located upstairs of the city hall building, 305 S. Carpenter Ave. in Kingsford.
Old business includes a proposed 1929 Ford Fire Truck loan agreement and resolution establishing non-union salaries and wages for fiscal year 2014-15.
Two public hearings are also scheduled – at 6:45 for a variance for a fence at 510 Mayfair St. – at 7 p.m. concerning the interpretation of ‘floor area, usable’ definition for computing parking on the code of ordinance Section 44.
