Marinette motorcycle crash investigated

MARINETTE, Wis. – The Wisconsin State Patrol has released the names of the parties involved in a car-motorcycle collision on the Fourth of July on U.S. 141 in Marinette County.

Debra A. Groeschel, 54, of Kimberly, Wis., suffered life-threatening injuries and was air-lifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., troopers said.

Groeschel was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her husband, Jerry L. Groeschel, 52, who suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette.

The motorcycle was southbound shortly before noon Friday when it collided with an eastbound car that failed to yield at the intersection of County Road P in the town of Beaver, according to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the car, Derek W. Marquardt, 19, of Coleman, Wis., escaped injury. A passenger in the car, a 16-year-old female from Crivitz, Wis., was taken to Bay Area Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Also responding were Coleman Rescue and Fire, Crivitz Rescue, Pound-Beaver Fire and Bay Area Medical paramedics. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, Wisconsin State Patrol and Marinette Police.
