North Dickinson cops junior championship
IRON MOUNTAIN -?North Dickinson completed its Little League junior baseball season with an 8-7 victory over Hermansville to finish with the league’s best record at 12-2.
Three uncharacteristic errors by ND in the first allowed Hermansville to gain a 5-0 advantage, but a tight game unfolded from there. ND picked away with a run in the third four more in the fourth and another in the sixth to take a 6-5 advantage.
Hermansville fought back with two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead.
North Dickinson had the last word however, putting the tying run in the books when Jared Miller stole home on a wild pitch. Tyler Halfaday crossed with the winning run when he scooted home on another wild pitch.
John Nelson, Mike Miller, Jared Miller, Tyler Halfaday, Quentin Ackerman and Alec Challancin all had hits for the Nordics.
Hermansville’s offense kept them in the game with an impressive hitting display by Hunter Riley.
In more junior baseball, Tre Doda tossed a no-hitter and Norway First National Bank/Spinal Solutions downed Subway in a five-inning Little League junior baseball game.
Doda fanned eight and walked none. A fourth-inning fielding error spoiled the perfect game.
Josh Boulden and Adam Faull each swatted two of Norway’s nine hits.
