Magician to perform at Dickinson County Library
Friday, July 4
The Dickinson County Library and its branches will be closed on Friday, July 4 to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. Regular summer hours will resume on Saturday, July 5.
Monday, July 7
Looney Lava and Bottle Blobs, 1 p.m. at the Norway Library and North Dickinson Branch Felch
Kids will create their own volcanoes, erupting lava, and “blobs” in a bottle while learning the science behind why these phenomena work. This program is for grades K-5 and registration is required. This program is sponsored by Pizza Hut.

Wednesday, July 9
ABC Science: S is for Snow, 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library
Learn the ABCs of science at the Dickinson County Library and Norway Library in June. Each session will focus on a different theme that will teach kids the various principles of science with stories, science demonstrations, activities, and crafts. This program is open to children under age 6 and is sponsored by Drs. Michael and Maria Occhietti and family.
Mad Scientist Mixtures, 11 a.m. at the Norway Library and 3 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library
Teens can indulge in their inner scientists with these fun and easy science concoctions including homemade bouncy balls, invisible ink, elephant toothpaste, and more. This program is for grades 5 and up and is sponsored by Erickson, Rochon & Nash Funeral Homes, Inc. and the Vulcan-Norway-Loretto Lions Club.
A Novel Bunch Book Club, 2:30 p.m. at the Norway Library
A Novel Bunch Book Club selection for July is The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin. Reading guides for this book are available at the Norway Library or on the Dickinson County Library website, www.dcl-lib.org. A Novel Bunch Book Club is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.

Magician Jim Lenz, 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library and 11:30 a.m. at the Norway City Hall
Jim Lenz is a magician who specializes in the magic of science and includes audience volunteers and interaction during his show. See astounding tricks and experiments that combine magic and science in one unforgettable show. This program is for all ages and is sponsored by the Dickinson Area Community Foundation.
Copper Miners: Trials and Tribulations in 1913 in Michigan’s Copper Country, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library
Presented by Donna Simons, author of Copper Empire, this program will talk about the dangers of working in a copper mine, the nine month labor strike and outcome, and how the strike led to a tragedy that forever changed the Copper Country.
Copies of Simons’ book will be available for sale and signing after the program. Don’t miss out on this great piece of U.P. history.
