Bernice Altobelli

IRON MOUNTAIN – Bernice D. Altobelli, 85, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at her home.

Bernice was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Thomas and Valeria (Socha) Nowak. She has been a lifelong resident of this area and attended Kingsford Schools. In 1945, she married Arthur Altobelli in Iron Mountain. Arthur preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1987.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Her life centered around her family and taking care of the people she cared about.

Bernice is survived by her children, Jodie (Susan Kirkham) Altobelli of Appleton, Wis., and Steven (Debbie) Altobelli of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Hoppe, Matthew Hoppe, Dana (Eric) Carlson and Jodi (Brad) Isaacson; great-grandchildren, Kylee and Paytan Carslson and Henry Hoppe; three sisters-in-law, Jospephine Syrjanen, Arlene Altobelli and Rena Altobelli. As well as three special nieces, Julie Unger, Patt Dumlao and Cathy Dyer. Special friends and neighbors, Joe and Karen Gutowski and Bill and Josie Calcari.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, George, Thomas and Joseph Nowak and two sisters, Ann Colantonio and Helen Flaminio.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Bernice’s memory.
