To the fire department

The Saturday, June 28th edition of The Daily News included a “Speak Out” letter telling people about regulations regarding campfires in the cities. At the end of the letter, readers were provided with the numbers for their local police departments.

I can’t speak for the other cities, but under the city of Iron Mountain’s open burning ordinance, the fire department (under the Fire Chief as the “fire code official”) is the only government body provided with the authority to order extinguishment of campfires. All calls regarding any kind of fire in the City of Iron Mountain should be directed to the fire department, either by calling 774-0622 for non-emergency calls, or by calling 911 in an emergency and specifying that you need the fire department sent.
