Music in the Park Concert Series to begin on Thursday

NORWAY – The city of Norway has again received a grant to host the Music in the Park summer concert series. The concerts have been changed to Thursday evenings this year and begin at 7 p.m.

There will be eight concerts with a variety of musical groups from June through the end of August.

Support for the program is provided by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts and CUPPAD Regional Commission. Music in the Park begins June 26 with the Derrel Syria Band which includes members from the popular group, Conge Se Menne.

They will be blending their Reggae and Caribbean beats with Finnish sounds and lyrics carrying the flavor of the Upper Peninsula.

The concerts are free of charge and will be held at the band shell on Main Street. A weekly ad will appear in the Current with upcoming performance dates and additional information on the music.

The city of Norway welcomes everyone to come out on Thursday evenings to enjoy the music and hopes that the event becomes a local family tradition.
