Stephen Lynerd Group plays Sunday

IRON RIVER – Grace Covenant Church is excited to welcome back The Stephen Lynerd Group to the Summer Concert Series, Sunday, June 22, at 7 p.m.

The public is invited to an evening of invigorating and rhythmic music and fellowship. A freewill offering is accepted during intermission.

The Stephen Lynerd Group includes jazz pianist, Benjamin Lynerd, bassist Patrick Mulcahy, and percussionist Phil Beale, and vibist Stephen Lynerd.

Stephen Lynerd was born and raised in New York, Stephen completed a M.M. in music performance from the University of Maryland, College Park. During a pursuit of doctoral work in New York, Stephen picked up and moved to Dallas, where he worked in the music ministry of a large church and founded The Jazz Package, a versatile collection of musicians who still work together today.

Following some time in California, Stephen settled in Chicago, where he continues to work as a church music director, and freelance musician and recording artist. Stephen and his wife, Deborah live in Bolingbrook, Ill.

Two more concerts remain in the 2014 series: The King’s Brass on Tuesday, July 1 at 7 p.m., and The Clauson Family Trio, Sunday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m.

The Summer Concert Series started at Grace Covenant Church in 1998 and over the years has included groups like The Chancellors Quartet, The Kings Brass, Larry Ford, Huntley Brown, The Gospelmen Quartet, Michael Giuliani, Maranatha Productions, and Sonship Quartet. All concerts are held in the sanctuary at Grace Covenant Church.

“Enjoy the evening of entertainment and then light refreshments and fellowship in the lower level of the church,” said Pastor James Swanson of Grace Covenant Church.

A freewill offering is accepted and applied to the expenses of the Summer Concert Series.
