Blues, Railroaders settle for tie after 10
KINGSFORD – Kingsford Blues and Channing Railroaders both exchanged rallies Wednesday but the America Legion baseball game resulted in a 7-7, 10-inning draw at Lodal Park’s Gary Spigarelli Field.
After Channing put up single runs in the first two innings, Kingsford responded with four in the second. CJ Qualley doubled while Bubba Johnson and Wes Paupore each singled in the Blues’ big second inning.
The Railroaders added a run in the third inning and pulled ahead 7-4 with two-run frames in the fifth and sixth. Ken Pekarek singled in the third and doubled in the fifth.
The contest was scoreless for the final four innings.
Blues pitchers Brandon Kowalkowski, Brock Grenier, Daniel Harrington and Cole Michaud allowed 10 hits. Railroaders lefthander Joel Vanlanan worked until the sixth where Noah Berg finished up from there. They permitted eight hits and struck out 10.
CJ Qualley led the Blues with a double and single. Pekarek, Brad Gustafson and Tim Hruska (double) each poked two Railroader hits.
The game will not be completed. Kingsford and Channing do not meet again this season.
The Blues visit Hancock on Saturday, play a make-up game with Ishpeming on Tuesday and host Marquette on Wednesday, June 25.
The Railroaders travel to Ishpeming on Monday.
