SAGOLA – Glenice (Glenny) M. Ertel, 94, of Sagola, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Dickinson County Healthcare System.
Glenice was the daughter of the late Louis and Maud (Lince) Byers and was born on May 9, 1920. She attended Sagola Elementary and Channing High School. Glenny married Adam “Sparky” Ertel on Oct. 1, 1936, in Iron Mountain and they made their home in Sagola. Sparky preceded her in death in 1996.
Glenny worked for 50 years as the branch manager for Stanley Home Products and covered the entire Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin. In addition to her work with Stanley, She and Sparky owned and operated the Horseshoe Bar in Sagola for several years.
She was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola and over the years has served the church in many capacities including Deacon and Elder. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors. Glenny enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, crocheting and reading.
She is survived by her two children, Anita (Norman) Peterson of Roseville, Minn. and Darryl (Nan) Ertel of Sagola; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd, Raymond, Gerald and Everett Byers; sisters, Flossie Sitka, Mildred Yaunkee, Helen Stroud and Evelyn Byers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to12 noon at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
Funeral services will follow Friday at 12 noon at the church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Sagola Township Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
