Little League: Vulcan wins Norway ‘Major’

NORWAY – The Vulcan Lions, with a 1-0 victory over Hermansville, secured the Norway Area Little League Major title.

Kody Hendricks fired a two-hitter for Vulcan. Ren Thorne produced the game’s only RBI with a single.

Hermansville was led by Noah Gorzinski on the mound and Ian Gorzinski at the plate.

Vulcan Lions moves on to play in the upcoming interleague tournament of champions.

… In junior baseball, U.P. Pump tripped Norway 6-2. Chase Kreski pitched five innings, and Nick McCole worked the final two. The duo combined for eight strikeouts and two walks. Noah Wilcox cracked three hits, including two doubles. McCole had a double and a single, and Chase Kreski hit two singles. Sawyer Perpich and Joey Rietveld both doubled. For Norway, Micha Wilson tagged a single and a triple, and Brian Stanchina added a double.

… In junior/senior softball, Kingsford Merchants pitcher Molly Wahoviak struck out 11 batters and walked one to beat Niagara 7-5. Jordyn Kriegl came with three singles, including the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the sixth. Kim Houtari and Raegan Pratt each contributed RBIs to seal the win. Heather Harris, Brooke Kriegl and Jordyn Kriegl were involved in an 8-6-2 relay and put-out-at-the-plate when Casey Spigarelli tried for an inside-the-park home run. Spigarelli led Niagara in hitting with a triple and two singles. Brooke Ermi was on the mound for Niagara striking out five.
