NIAGARA, Wis. – Dennis R. Nelson, 83, of Niagara, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain.
He was born Oct. 19, 1930, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Oscar and Ruth (Edberg) Nelson. He graduated from Felch High School in 1949. Following graduation, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army, served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1951.
Dennis moved to Milwaukee and began his career with 3M in 1955, working in the shipping department. On May 27, 1961, he married Geraldine Salbeck, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 1992.
After 37 years of employment, Dennis retired and relocated to Slinger, Wis. for four years. He moved to Niagara in 1997, where he has resided since that time.
Dennis enjoyed all sports and was a talented baseball player in his younger years.
He is survived by many cousins including Mary Lou (David) Blomquist, Joanne Stenfors, Richard (Mary) Edberg, Jim (Barb) Edberg , Bill (Rita) Edberg, Bob (Karen) Edberg, Glenn (Gail) Palmer, Ronald (Debbie) Palmer, Delores Burton, Patricia (Kit) Gillman, Marsha Edberg and Martin Falstad; and a special friend and loving companion, Linda Scott.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 18, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will follow Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Wynne Kimbrough will officiate.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
