Charges filed in shooting
IRON MOUNTAIN – An East Kingsford man has been charged after allegedly injuring a woman’s legs while shooting at a bag of cans she was holding.
Jack Robert Strong, 63, faces one felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one high court misdemeanor count of careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death, and one misdemeanor count of possession of a firearm while under the influence.
If convicted, he could spend up to six years in prison.
A preliminary examination in Dickinson County District Court is scheduled for next week.
The charges against Strong stem from a June 9 incident in Breitung Township.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, Strong is accused of shooting a pistol at a bag of cans that the female victim was holding. He allegedly told authorities that he had intended to scare the woman.
The woman reported that bullet shrapnel caused several puncture wounds on her legs. Hospital x-rays showed that several pieces of the bullet had lodged under the skin of both of her legs.
Authorities claimed that Strong had admitted to consuming at least four beers. His preliminary breath test showed a .186 blood alcohol content, according to the complaint.
