Symetra pros to host free junior clinic

HARRIS – The Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass Golf Club invites junior golfers to a free demonstration with LPGA Symetra Tour players on Tuesday, June 24.

Open to ages 10-14, the event will be held at the Sweetgrass Golf Club driving range at 3 p.m. (Central time) Participants will receive an Island Resort Championship T-shirt and tickets to the tournament, June 27-29.

Parents or guardians must register their child in advance by calling the Sweetgrass golf shop at 906-723-2251.

‘Windy’ aces Highland

HYDE – “Windy” Wickman of Felch likes the 14th hole at Highland Golf Course.

Wickman fired a hole-in-one Monday on No. 14. Five years ago, he aced the same hole.

Wickman was golfing with a group from Solberg’s Supper Club – Darrell Larson, DJ Larson and Ralph Jones.

Pine Grove ladies

IRON MOUNTAIN – Alice Tuomela led the way in the Pine Grove Country Club Ladies Golf League.

In the 18-hole league’s “Throw out worst three holes and deduct handicap,” Tuomela, 52, took Class A from Shirley Ellis, 57; Class B, Lu Menghini and Liz Paoli, 47; Class C, Joy Carlson and Greta Michaud, 54, and Class D, Faye Rahoi and Cathy Norman, 43.

In closest to the pin on No. 13, Class A went to Rochelle Wittkopf; Class B, Lisa Fittante; Class C, Emily Ellis, and Class D, Cathy Norman.

Diane Beauchamp (No. 17), Lisa Harry (No. 3), Jill Smith (No. 13), Margaret Goudreau (No. 6), Kay Verrette (No. 2) and Wendy Zambon (No. 5) and Greta Michaud (No. 17).

NORWAY – Mike Peters carded an even par 36 for “A” Division medalist in the Forward Financial Monday Night Golf League at Oak Crest Golf Course. Tim Krause led “B” Division with a 41.

After five weeks of the season, Mike Boileau-Trevor Vassar lead Division One with 18.5 points. Mark Zenko-Danny Steeno remain the Division Two leader with 16.
