Little League: Balanced attack carries U.P. Pump
IRON MOUNTAIN – U.P. Pump, with five players recording a multi-hit game, topped Grede 12-9 in Little League junior baseball.
John Sturm tagged two singles and a double, Chase Kreski and Noah Wilcox each hit a single and a double, and Marc McCole and Matt Moreau had two singles each for U.P. Pump.
Kreski and Wilcox pitched for the victory, fanning five and walking five.
For Grede, Nate Rutter and Luke Terrian had two singles each.
… In another junior baseball game, Kingsford’s Back in Motion shut out FNB Crystal Falls 3-0. Austin VanPembrook checked Crystal Falls batters to just two hits while striking out 10. He also helped his own cause with a fence-clearing home run. Jacob Henes and Ed Plumbly each added RBI singles.
… Norway FNB/Spinal Solutions rolled Aurora 17-2 in more junior baseball. Connor Ortman collected the win on the hill, keeping Aurora hitless for five innings while striking out eight. Tre Doda fanned another five hitters over the final two frames. Micah Wilson and Ortman each tagged three hits. Adam Faull and Billy Pellegrini had two hits for Norway.
… In Little League major baseball, Elks handled North Dickinson behind the four-hit pitching of Eli Lofholm and Caleb Evosevich-Hynes. Foster Wonders led the Elks offense with a double, triple and grand slam. Jurgen Kleiman added two singles, and Evosevich-Hynes cracked a single. Cody Sheldon had two singles for ND.
… Parker Lasater jacked two home runs for Vulcan Lions and Micah Brubaker had two shots for Pembine in Vulcan’s 9-6 major victory. Lasater’s first long ball, a solo shot in the bottom of the first, helped answer Brubaker’s three-run, inside-the-park home run. Brubaker hit another shot to right in the third to lift Pembine to a 6-2 lead. The Lions went ahead in the bottom of the fourth, with Tyler Spring and Zac Pelligrini scoring. Lasater led off the bottom of the fifth with another solo blast, making it 8-6 Vulcan. Spring also crossed home in the fifth, plating Vulcan’s final run. Kody Hendricks and Lasater pitched for Vulcan. Jackson Whitt and Wyatt Marcy threw for Pembine.
… Dairy Queen pitchers Nathan Bousley and Henry McRoberts combined for 11 strikeouts, seven walks and one hit in four innings of play against Pizza Hut in a major baseball (ages 9-10) game. Dylan Bousley crossed home plate three times to lead DQ in scoring. Pizza Hut pitchers James Chartier and Max Jayne allowed 13 hits and seven walks while striking out four. Parker Stroud poked a two-run single in the top of the third.
