Merle Pollard

NORWAY – Merle M. Pollard, 86, of Norway, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at ManorCare Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford.

She was born on May 30, 1928, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Faye and Viola (Vicary) McCornock.

Merle graduated from Kingsford High School.

She married William Denton Pollard on July 17, 1948, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1992.

Before marriage, Merle spent some time as an X-ray technician and also with the FBI in Washington D.C. in the fingerprint division.

She liked music and reading and visits from her “special” granddaughters, Melissa and Sarah. For many years she gave piano lessons. She loved traveling and was proud to say that she had been to all but two U.S. states and 41 countries worldwide.

Merle is survived by three children, Mike (Val) Pollard of Stephenson, Mark (Kathy) Pollard of Norway and Jennifer (Tom) Manninen of Negaunee; grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Eric and Ian Pollard, Katie (Will) Pugh, Melissa, Darren, Melanie and Crystal Manninen; brother, Tim (Sue) Rau of Punta Gorda, Fla.; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; brother, Pat McCornock; and grandson, Nathan Pollard and his wife Jennifer.

Per Merle’s wishes, private funeral services will be held.

Interment will be at the Norway Township Cemetery.
