Dates set for 4th Mariucci Classic

MARQUETTE – Iron Mountain’s Steve Mariucci is gearing up to host the fourth annual Beacon House U.P. Celebrity Golf Classic (UPCGC) on June 25-26 at Marquette Golf Club.

So far, 35 celebrities have confirmed their attendance to play with golf teams from across the U.P., including Jay Feely, Arizona Cardinals kicker; Lem Barney and Charlie Sanders, former Detroit Lions and NFL Hall of Famers; Robert Brooks, former Green Bay Packer receiver; Eddie Murray, former Detroit Lions kicker, Keith and Monte Colburn, captains from the “Deadliest Catch.”

PGA pro Rickard Strongert of Madrid, Spain, is scheduled to headline the Celebrity Golf Clinic, along with PGA teaching pros Donald Crawley, Fred Muller, David Albreicht and others.

This annual event now generates one-third of the Beacon House’s annual operating expenses through the sponsored teams and individual players. While most of the Greywalls teams are filled, there are still six openings for teams. Heritage is more than half-filled and has 14 teams still available.

Organizer Mary Tavernini Dowling hopes the reduced rates on Heritage this year will allow more teams to play and help to increase the participation in the event.

“We listened to those who wanted to join us but thought the ticket prices were too high,” Dowling said. “By offering the golf portion on the Heritage Course without all the additional events and gifts allows a more affordable entry fee of $250.”

The fee covers the entire Thursday, June 26, events including the breakfast buffet, celebrity competition, Mooch Send-off, 18 holes of golf with carts, gourmet food stations throughout the course, hole in one prize chance to win a Cadillac, and the famous 19th Hole party.

A shirt or a party ticket are available for an additional fee.

“We just want the community to come out and enjoy this incredible event that we’ve built to support the mission of Beacon House,” Dowling said.

Major sponsors making this event possible are two organizations from Iron Mountain – MJ Electric and Bacco Construction.

“MJ and Bacco understand that it’s their neighbors, friends and co-workers who utilize Beacon House when they are facing serious medical issues and are unable to get the level of care they need at their community hospital,” Dowling said. “They support this event because they believe in our cause, and want to keep Beacon House an option for those who may not be able to afford a hotel or an apartment when faced with a medical crisis.

“Our guests come from across the U.P., not Marquette. So we’re grateful when businesses from outside the area so generously support us, as MJ and Bacco do.”
