Two on motorcycle killed in crash

ISHPEMING – The Ishpeming Police Department is investigating a fatal accident in which a motorcycle carrying two people collided with a Ryder transport truck Thursday afternoon.

Chief of Police Dan Willey said the accident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. on U.S. 41 at Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming.

According to Willey, the driver of the motorcycle and a passenger died at the scene; the deceased, a man and a woman, are believed to be Upper Peninsula residents.

Police said preliminary investigation into the accident indicates that the truck, driven by a 19-year-old Ishpeming man, may have turned into the path of the motorcycle, which was eastbound on U.S. 41. The truck was attempting to turn south onto Lakeshore Drive from the westbound lanes.

The names of the deceased and the driver of the truck will not be released at this time. Authorities are trying to find the next of kin to inform them of the accident.

The incident remains under investigation.
