CRYSTAL FALLS – William “Bill” Lundin, 71, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1942, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Harry and Henrietta (Holmes) Lundin-Penttila. He attended the Crystal Falls schools, graduating from Crystal Falls High School.
Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged. After serving his country, Bill married Jean Harju on Aug. 17, 1968, in Waukegan, Ill. and lived there for 20 years, moving to Big Bay, Mich. in 1988. They lived in Big Bay until moving to Crystal Falls in 2011.
Bill worked for Star Industries as a truck driver picking up medical waste all throughout the U.P., until retiring in 2008.
He was an all around Yooper, loving his hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding around on his lawnmower, cutting the many acres at his home. Bill was a “people” person, a talker; he loved meeting new people and new friends wherever his travels brought him. He was never too shy to spark up a conversation, he loved it.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of nearly 46 years, Jean Lundin of Crystal Falls; his twin sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Lundin of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob “Jack” Lundin and a sister, Dorothy Soderberg.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls. Doris Kewley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
