KINGSFORD – Nancy Varda, 79, of Kingsford, passed away on May 31, 2014, at Freeman Nursing Home.
Nancy was born on Oct. 28, 1934, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Ernest and Pearl (Douglas) Caruso. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1953, and has been a resident of this area for most of her life.
Nancy married Norris Varda on Nov. 26, 1955, at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford Heights.
She worked for more than 20 years as the office manager for Cummins Diesel and for nine years in the office at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church.
Nancy began playing the organ in the church at the age of 12. She loved music and was a talented organist and singer. She served as the church organist and led the choir for more than 40 years.
Nancy was also a member of the Smile a While group that played and sang at local nursing homes. She loved traveling on yearly family vacations.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Norris; three sons, Steve (Joy) Varda of Piedmont, S.C., Todd (Lea) Varda of Iron Mountain and David (Mitzi) Varda of West Bloomfield, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Colleen, Jacob, Jordan, Kyle, Drew and Makenna Varda.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. until at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian burial.
Burial will be at Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association.
