‘Pete the Cat’ part of library program

IRON MOUNTAIN – Dickinson County Library has released its upcoming events from June 3-13.

They are as follow:

Tuesday, June 3

Hug Your Cat Day, 3:30 p.m. at the Norway Library. They library will be celebrating Hug Your Cat Day with great books featuring “Pete the Cat” and “The Cat in the Hat.” A competition for craziest and most colorful cat coloring page and games like Cat Tricks! and Yarn Ball will finish off the day. This program is for kids in grades kindergarten through fifth.

Wednesday, June 4

Hug Your Cat Day, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library. This will feature the same events as the previous day in Norway.

Thursday, June 5

Belly Dancing 101, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library. Jeana Harmon will introduce the library to the art of belly dancing. She is certified through the National Dance Exercise Association and has more than 30 years of experience working in the health field. “This program is sure to delight one and all,” said a library spokesperson.

Friday, June 6

Infant Massage, 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library. Led by Marie Pera from the Dickinson Iron District Health Department, this program will teach you about the health benefits infant massage can provide for you and your child. This hands-on program will teach you tummy massage techniques to prevent constipation and promote digestive health. Handouts with more techniques and further information will also be provided. This program is a hands-on session and requires that you bring your child so that the techniques can be practiced in a safe environment.

Monday, June 9

“Fizz, Boom, Read!” for Summer Reading at the Dickinson County Library and Branches. Summer Reading is coming to the Dickinson County Library. Registration for the 2014 Summer Reading program will begin on Monday, June 9 at the Dickinson County Library and Branches. Kids and teens can stop by any time at their home branch and sign-up for the program, and receive a prize. Some of the amazing programs featured this summer at the library are concerts from Tom Pease and the Bergonzi String Quartet, a Mythbusters themed experiment, the Ann Arbor Hands-On Science Museum, science magician Jim Lenz, Teen Iron Chef, Gross Me Out at the Library, and much more. Persons can stop by the library and pick up a brochure or calendar that features all of these great events.

A Novel Bunch Book Club, 2:30 p.m. at the Norway Library. A Novel Bunch Book Club selection for June is “The Postmistress” by Sarah Blake. Reading guides for this book are available at the Norway Library or on the Dickinson County Library website, www.dcl-lib.org. A Novel Bunch Book Club is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.

Friday, June 13

ABC Science: G is for Grow, 10 a.m. at the Norway Library. Learn the ABCs of science at the Dickinson County Library and Norway Library in June. Each session will focus on a different theme that will teach kids the various principles of science with stories, science demonstrations, activities, and crafts. This program is open to children under age six and is sponsored by Drs. Michael and Maria Occhietti and family.
