Knights extend winning streak

EBEN – Strong pitching and defense helped propel Norway to a doubleheader sweep over Superior Central in high school baseball Tuesday, increasing the Knights’ win streak to six games.

The Knights won 9-1 and 2-1.

“Our defense was good for the most part,” Knights coach Tony Adams said. “We turned four double plays which was nice to see.”

Bryce Plante earned the win in the first game, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing just the one earned run. He struck out one and walked four. Austin Grayvold struck out two for the final two outs of the game.

Mike Faull got the Knights on the board in the fifth of what was a scoreless game with two-run single. The Knights added seven in the sixth, sending 11 batters to the plate. Jorden Neumann ripped a two-run single, and Garrett Bonetti added a two-run double.

In the second game, Caleb Tinkey took the win, surrendering three hits over 4 1/3 innings. He fanned two. Grayvold pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and gave up three more hits while striking out three.

“Bryce Plante, Caleb Tinkey, and Austin Grayvold pitched very well today,” Adams said. “We struggled offensively in part because of pitch selection. Cody Carlson and Bryce Grayvold had huge hits in game 2.”

Carlson was 2-for-3 in the second game. He had a RBI double in Norway’s fourth. Bryce Grayvold added a run-scoring single in the frame.
