Norway closes in on MPC title

NEGAUNEE – Norway needs a doubleheader sweep Tuesday over Ishpeming to clinch a share of the Mid-Peninsula Conference softball title with Negaunee.

The Knights are coming off a doubleheader split with the Miners, losing the opener 6-3 and taking the nightcap 11-5.

“In the first game, Rosalie Anderson pitched a great game for the Miners,” Norway Coach Scott Conery said.

Anderson spaced three hits and fanned nine to stop Norway in the opener. Ashley Zanon had two Norway hits and Jacey Bal had one.

In the second game, Rachel Conery and Bal each tagged two hits in a seven-run first inning.

Bal and Conery each collected three hits in the game. Harlie Caster chipped in two. Bobbi Hulce knocked in four runs.

Norway (9-1 MPC, 14-4 overall) visits Ishpeming on Tuesday.
