Dickinson County Library activities planned May 19-29

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Dickinson?County Library has announced its upcoming activities from May 19 through May 29. They include:

Monday, May 19

Wiggle Worms Storytime, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library.

Toddlers will be delighted in stories and songs brought by the library’s favorite puppet friends. They will learn nine new words a day. Participating in stories, songs and rhymes helps develop your child’s vocabulary and builds meaningful experiences. Get ready to dance, laugh and play at the library. This program is geared to ages 2-3 years old, but is open to kids of all ages.

Tuesday, May 20

The Cross Country Supersonic Science Song Showcase with Mr. Billy, 10 a.m. at the North Dickinson School and 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library.

Mr. Billy brings an exciting live concert that features electric guitar, drums, rock and roll guitars for the kids to jam with, bubbles, singing, dancing, learning about books and more. Featuring songs from his new Summer Reading themed CD “Supersonic Science Songs” and more, this concert is sure to take rock and roll to a whole new level. This program is for kids of all ages and is sponsored by the Friends of the Dickinson County Library.

Thursday, May 22

Physical Therapy 101, 6:30 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library.

Dr. Sara Edlebeck from the Iron Mountain-Kingsford U.P. Rehab Services will lead a questions and answers session all about physical therapy, including the areas beyond the realm of clinical care and taking care of the whole body. Dr. Edlebeck has years of education and experience which have provided her an understanding of medical sciences, exercise, and manual therapy techniques that will help you understand more about physical therapy. This program is one that should not be missed, states a library spokesperson.

Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26

Memorial Day closing, all day at the Dickinson County Library and Branches.

Summer hours at the Dickinson County Library and Branches. Summer hours will start Saturday, May 24, with the Dickinson County Library open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Dickinson County Library and Branches will be closed on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26 for the Memorial Day holiday. The library will re-open on Tuesday, May 27 with their summer hours. Summer hours at the Dickinson County Library are as follows: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. Norway Library’s hours remain the same throughout the year. North Dickinson’s summer hours will begin Monday, June 16 and are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.

Tuesday, May 27

Page by Page Book Club, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library.

The Page by Page Book Club selection for May is “Stones for Bread” by Christa Parrish. Reading guides for this book are available at the Dickinson County Library and DCL website, www.dcl-lib.org. The Book Club is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.

Thursday, May 29

Edible Landscaping, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library.

Led by Rebecca Krans, the MSUE Consumer Horticulture Educator for the Upper Peninsula, “Edible Landscaping” will help homeowners learn how to reap food crops while keeping their yards aesthetically pleasing. Edible landscaping is a great alternative to conventional residential landscapes that are designed solely for ornamental purposes, by allowing you to keep your yard beautiful while growing food to nourish the body. This program is perfect for both the master gardener and the beginning plant enthusiast.
