Flivver girls suffer pair of soccer losses

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. – The Kingsford Flivvers suffered a pair of girls soccer losses to Ashland and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, both by 4-1 scores.

“We played very well and all 23 girls were able to play,” said Flivver coach Todd Formolo. “As a very young team it’s important to develop the young players for the future high school years.”

In the first match, Ashland held a 2-0 lead before the Flivvers’ Megan VanPembrook found the net. The Oredockers than added two more goals.

“We had to take risks to get the score tied which didn’t work out in our favor,” Formolo said.

Kingsford experienced similar results in the second match, trailing 2-1 on a goal from freshman Tori DalSanto.

“With 10 minutes remaining again we changed formations to help get another goal to tie it up,” Formolo said. “Overall, very good play by our girls. They learned a lot playing seasoned teams who are very good.”

The Flivvers (2-4) travel Saturday to Waupaca, Wis., opening with Fond du Lac at 9 a.m.

“We have a very good schedule of tough teams which is a good experience for this young team,” Formolo said.
