William J. Jansen

NORWAY – William J. “Bill” Jansen, 72, of Norway, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

For the past five years, Bill resided at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, where he enjoyed the many friendships he made.

Bill was born Aug. 23, 1941, in Norway, son of the late George and Aurelia (Guiliani) Jansen. He graduated from Norway High School in 1961 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Bill was employed by Trico Opportunities in Kingsford for more than 30 years, retiring in 2004.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway and the Norway Moose Lodge.

Bill was an avid sports fan, following the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and attending many Norway High School sporting events. He loved socializing with family and friends and his contagious laugh and quick wit were enjoyed by many.

He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Clarke and Betty (Wayne) Phillips, both of Iron Mountain; nieces and nephews, Catherine (Craig) Anderson of Geneva, Ill., Robert (Elizabeth) Clarke of Lynchburg, Va., Steven (Tanya) Phillips of Iron Mountain, Paul (Melissa) Phillips of Marion, Iowa, and Mark Phillips of Hiawatha, Iowa; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, C. Robert Clarke.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m., with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis presiding.

Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.
