Lena Delago

CASPIAN – Lena Delago, 89, of Caspian, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at her home.

She was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Loretto, the daughter of the late Peter and Rosa (Meneguzzo) Pellizzer. She attended Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the class of 1943.

Lena married Cornelius Delago Jr. on Nov. 30, 1946, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in 1992. Cornelius preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1993.

Lena was employed in the kitchen at West Iron County Hospital for over ten years and was awarded Employee of the Year while at the hospital.

She was a member St. Cecilia Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Society. She enjoyed cooking and making pasta, baking, sewing, and crocheting. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and her biggest sources of pride were her kids and family.

Lena is survived by her sons, Pierre (Susan) Delago of Afton, Minn., and Paul (Charlene) Delago of Kenai, Alaska; daughters, Barbara (John) Sevener of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Julie Delago of East Bethel, Minn.; brothers, John (Germaine) Pellizzer of Caspian, and James (Ruth) Pellizzer of Iron River; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Marinello.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of St. Anne’s Society will form an Honor Guard at the service.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
