Read the rules

I would like to call the attention to the flag that is on display across the street on the south end of Lake Antoine. This would be located on Margaret Street area.

Do you know the laws about the defacing of the American flag? I have been traveling that same route for a long time, and I notice the flag on a “pole” of some kind near the pier how dirty, ripped beyond repair and just hanging there.

I am so upset to think that this once was an American flag, “Old Glory,” that stands for freedom and for our soldiers that fight to defend our freedom.

I took the time to look up and printed the United States Flag Code: Federal Law Relating to Display and Associated Questions, Order Code RL30243. You can Google this information for yourself.

CRS-3 (a) “It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.” Well, this flag certainly is not displayed properly during the nighttime hours, much less at any time.

CRS-3 (c) “The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed.” “What was” an American Flag that is displayed, is hard to tell if it was an all weather flag. Also there is no color left to the flag. Which is a total disgrace.

This CRS Report for Congress is an important regulation that should be read by every American Citizen that displays the American Flag. I urge the people that are responsible for that flag to read what they are in violation of. I also suggest that there are drop off points in IM and Aurora where you can take the flag to and have it burned. Although, the law does speak of a private burning, it is legal to hold a private burning. I suggest that you have the courtesy of walking across the street and remove that flag and destroy it properly and legally.

I am appalled at some of the flags that are displayed in this town. Do you not have respect for our freedom? I retired from our government as a civil servant, and I love our American Flag. We display ours with respect.

Our flag flies high on a proper flag pole. And it is an all weather flag, and flown at night time with illumination below it.

We are so very proud of how we display our freedom. If this is not your responsibility of that flag, please have the respect and cross the street to remove it. I would if I wasn’t trespassing Thank you.

Now we soon will have certain holidays coming up where people display the flag.

Please take time, once again and read the rules of displaying the flag, and be proud that you are an American, and what our flag stands for. Amen.

A proud American.
