Escanaba man faces CSC charges

ESCANABA – A 21-year-old Escanaba man, charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct, remains lodged in the Delta County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond.

Joseph Richard Williams, of 6340 Poplar L.6 Lane, Escanaba, was arrested following an April 7 incident in Wells Township involving a female 13 to 15 years old.

The case was suppressed to the public at the district court level. On April 17, charges were bound over to circuit court. Williams is scheduled for a pretrial conference on May 21 when he may schedule a trial or plea date in circuit court.

Williams is charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim 13-15 years of age. Each felony carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison.

He is also charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim 13-16 years of age.

The high-court misdemeanor carries a maximum punishment of two years imprisonment and a $500 fine.
