Patriots take down error-prone Badgers
NIAGARA, Wis. – Goodman-Pembine capitalized on 10 errors and defeated Niagara 17-7 in a five-inning high school softball game Monday at Riverside Park.
“We’ve got some growing pains on defense,” Niagara Coach Duane Blagec said.
Patriots pitchers Rachel Stankevich and Jenna Decker permitted three hits. They both had a pair of strikeouts.
Badgers’ Marah Harvath and Brook Ermi yielded 12 hits and fanned one.
Kayleigh Betla led the Patriots with three hits, scoring four runs while Stankevich had three hits and three runs. Decker added two more hits.
“Offensive was our strong point tonight,” Patriots coach Sara Seidel said. “We were able to place a few good bunts and hit some in just the right places in the outfield.”
For the Niagara offense, Casey Spigarelli doubled while Courtnee Marquardt, Harvath and Cailyn Branbeck singled.
The Badgers travel to Crivitz today and Marinette St. Thomas Aquinas Academy Thursday. Goodman-Pembine is scheduled to play at Laona/Wabeno today and host Three Lakes Thursday.
