Community Grief Group meeting slated on Sunday

IRON MOUNTAIN – OSF Home Care Services are offering a community grief group “Living Through Loss” on Sunday at the Dickinson Memorial Hospital library in Iron Mountain. The group will be meeting from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

It is often difficult for the family, friends and individuals who have lost a loved one to understand why the grieving process lasts so long. Grief is complicated and each individual may experience it differently.

“We react to our loss with shock, numbness and disbelief when we experience trauma, our first reaction is to shut down or go numb,” said a spokesperson. “This cushions us from overwhelming feelings during our early grief. We may feel as if we are on automatic pilot during the first weeks. Even an expected death is a shock. We may feel the loss unreal, a nightmare or terrible mistake.”

Important healing takes place when we experience and express grief with people who understand the process and who are able to provide caring support. The group offers a warm, caring and confidential environment that allows you the opportunity to be supported by others who understand.

No registration is required, and is open to the community.
