WONDER LAKE, Ill. – Gordon Patrick Bauer, 63, of Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
He was born May 3, 1950, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Urban and Dorothy (Jones) Bauer. On Dec. 27, 1980, he married Ellen Krueger at Saint Stephen Lutheran Church in Antioch, Ill.
Gordon was raised in Ringwood, Ill., and later moved to Round Lake Park, Ill., where he raised his family. He moved to Iron River, where he lived for many years before moving back to Wonder Lake. He was employed with the Lake County Sheriffs office from 1979 until 1997 and then with the Prairie Grove Police Department until retiring in 2011.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, building miniature farm replicas, and was an antique tractor enthusiast. Gordon was a doting grandfather, family was his first priority. He will be fondly remembered for his sharp wit and humor.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Ellen; three children, Melissa (the late Russell) Marcel of Crystal Falls, Rachel (Richard) Fricker of Wonder Lake, and Edward (Jennifer) Bauer of Wonder Lake; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Bauer of Ringwood; and two sisters, Pam (John) Chambers of Ringwood, and Sandy (James) Huff of Sharon, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Gerald; and a daughter, Krista.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
