IRON MOUNTAIN – Malvern “Dutch” Robinette, 93, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born on July 19, 1920, in Hardwood, son of the late Joseph and Louise (Peronto) Robinette. He married Arlene Sovey on May 8, 1943, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain. The couple would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in a few weeks time.
Dutch was a very loving family man and a true patriot. He entered the United States Army during World War II in 1942, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific and European African Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations. Dutch was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and spent time in Okinawa, Japan as a prison guard. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1945.
After the war, Dutch took a job for the Allen Bradley Co. in Milwaukee. He had a 32 year career as a set-up man and avid union steward.
Dutch loved the four seasons and the outdoors. He greatly enjoyed going to deer camp and the time spent playing cards with his brothers.
Dutch is survived by his wife of 70 years, Arlene; children, Donna (Jerry) Kanter of Quinnesec, JoAnn (Hank Hoisington) Robinette of Elm Grove, Wis., and Mike (Colleen) Robinette of West Allis, Wis.; brothers, Don (Marie) Robinette of Milwaukee, and Harold (Carol) Robinette of Schaffer; sisters, Alice Charlevoix of Iron Mountain, Betty Cary of Hardwood and Shirley Johnson of Foster City; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Robinette of Powers, Nancy Robinette of Schaffer, LaVerne Pedri of Milwaukee, and Lorraine Peterson of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was also survied by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be announced.
